Passage 1
Have you ever been in a meeting while someone was making a speech and realized suddenly that your mind was a million miles away? You probably felt sorry and made up your mind to pay attention and never have daydreaming again. Most of us, from earliest school days, have been told that daydreaming is a waste of time.
“On the contrary,” says L.Giambra, an expert in psychology, “daydreaming is quite necessary. Without it, the mind couldn't get done all the thinking it has to do during a normal day...You can't possibly do all your thinking with a conscious mind. Instead, you unconscious mind is working out problems all the time. Daydreaming then may be one way that the unconscious and conscious states of mind have silent dialogues.”
Daydreams are usually very simple and direct, quite unlike sleep dreams, which may be hard to understand. It's easier to gain a deep understanding of your life by paying close attention to your daydreams than by trying to examine your sleep dreams carefully. Daydreams help you recognize the difficult situations in your life and find out a possible way of handling them.

31.Which of the following is a case of daydreaming?
A. You are in a meeting and make up your mind to pay attention.
B. You are in a meeting and someone is making a speech.
C. You are in a meeting and you are not listening to the speaker.
D. You are in a meeting and you are giving a speech.
32.According to Giambra, daydreaming is ______.
A. thinking during a normal day.
B. necessary thinking with a conscious mind.
C. working out problems all the time.
D. useful unconscious thinking.
33.Daydreams can help us understand ______.
A. our life.
B. our night dreams.

D. our attention.
Passage 2
Music which is original is individual and personal. That is to say, it can be identified as belonging to a particular composer. It has particular qualities, or a style, which are not copied from another. If you can recognize the style of a composer, you will probably be able to tell that a certain composition belongs to him or her even though you have never heard it before. A composer organizes his melodies and rhythms and combines sounds to create harmony. He may be capable of thinking up very good, original tunes, yet if tunes are poorly organized, the final result will not be to standard.
Good music expresses feelings in a way that is suitable to those feelings. There may be joy, sorrow, fear, love, anger, or whatever. Bad music, on the other hand, may confuse unrelated feelings, it may not express any important feeling at all, or it may exaggerate some feelings and make them vulgar, that is, cheap and ugly.
Good music will stand the test of time. It will not go out of fashion but will continue to be enjoyed and respected long after it is first introduced.  It will gain a kind of permanent status while bad music will disappear and be forgotten quickly. In pop music, where the general rule seems to be “the newer the better”, the test of time is the hardest test of all to pass.

34.Original music is ______.
A. the individual creation of a composer.
B. the work of a particular composer.
C. the style of a certain composer.
D. the particular qualities of a composer.
35.Good music is ______.
A. well-organized tunes.
B. proper expression of feelings.
C. an expression of mixed feelings.
D. exaggeration of some feelings.
36.According to the author, pop music cannot stand the test of time because ______.
A. it is not good music.               B. it is a general rule.
C. only young people like it.                D. people like new pop music.
Passage 3
Curley says the most easily justified e-business investments are those that provide business value and improve IT efficiency. One example he cites: peer-to-peer enabled e-learning, or distance learning facilitated by technology. This provides just-in-time instruction that can be more effective and efficient than traditional education—and uses the existing corporate IT infrastructure. “This makes the investment attractive to both the business and the information technology organization,” Curley says.
What makes e-business investments the same as other IT investments? Curley says it's the need to understand the goals and the investment's expected impact. Is the impact improved business efficiency, effectiveness or perhaps business transformation?
But what makes e-business investments different? For starters, there is the pace at which investments may need to be made. The faster you move, the less likely you are to have operational excellence. The key is getting everyone to agree on the right tradeoff.
Experts note healthy trends as a result of the economic downturn. Rather than blindly pouring cash into Internet divisions, for example, executives are recognizing that business is business — whether online or in person. They also recognize that all the returns aren't obvious at the start.

37.According to the first paragraph, peer-to-peer enabled e-learning is a justified e-business investment because ______.
A. it is the most profitable investment at present.
B. it can provide business value and improve IT efficiency.
C. it is just as good as traditional education.
D. it is the most effective and efficient way of education.
38.In Curley's opinion, e-business investments are the same as other IT investments in that ______
A. they both can improve business efficiency and effectiveness.
B. they both can speed up the business transformation.
C. their goals and intended influence need to be understood.
D. they both can bring much profit to the investors.
39.E-business investments are different from other IT investments in that ______
A. e-business investments should be made at a slower pace.
B. e-business investments should be made at a faster pace.
C. the slower one moves, the more excellent operations he will get.
D. the faster one moves, the move excellent operations he will get.
40.In the last paragraph, “business is business” means that ______
A. you can't expect to earn much money through e-business.
B. e-business is not real business for them.
C. you can pour much cash into e-business.
D. e-business and traditional business have much in common.

The year 2000 has been tough for online retailers. (71) Changes in the market have driven many sites out of business, and many others are only barely surviving. The holidays, promising greatly increased sales, offer hope for many e-commerce sites. (72) The good news for retailers is that the holiday market will grow; this year's holiday sales are predicted to be 66% higher than last year's.
    (73) In a year when over half the U.S population has access to the Internet, e-commerce sites can expect dramatic increases in site traffic before the holidays. Forrester Research predicts $10 billion in holiday revenues, and Jupiter forecasts the U.S. holiday market as $12 billion. Gartner Group predicts $10.7 billion in North American holiday sales and worldwide sales of $19.5 billion.
While revenue estimates vary, it’s clear that Holiday 2000 will be big for e-commerce. Customers will shop online this holiday season for convenience; by shopping online, customers avoid crowds, transportation hassles, and inconvenient store hours. One customer commented in our tests that she would shop online “to avoid the hassle of going to different stores.” Another shopper said that (74) buying gifts online is a lot easier because of the lines in the stores.
Despite the eager shoppers and the predictions of a big holiday season, there is bad news for online retailers: the e-commerce industry is losing billions of dollars in potential sale. (75) Shoppers want to purchase online, but many sites make it too hard to buy.
